Saved to the Claud
Saved to the Claud is a recurring segment recounting the life and times of one miss Claudia Conway, social media phenom and daughter of Kellyanne and George Conway.
This past Wednesday I was casually scrolling through my For You Page around 12:30, as one does. I was minding my own business, thinking about how fleeting our time on this planet is. And then all of a sudden, something struck me.
Out of nowhere, a familiar voice and face approached me and shocked me to my core. Yes, I bore witness to the return of our beloved Claudia Conway. Now you may remember my coverage of Claudia in the past. She was definitely more prevalent in the older iteration of Poppington, but she’s been a pretty stable fixture around here. That said, miss Claudia had indeed seemingly disappeared from the internet.
You may recall that Claudia’s home-life had gotten so bad that she actively reached out for help from her digital platform several times. And not too long after one of the more explosive moments between Claudia and her mother, Kellyanne, she appeared on American Idol.
Now Claudia’s run on Idol was not very long. She’s very talented, but let’s face it, she was going through it. And the popular idea in fictional magic systems that power is linked to emotional wellbeing is pretty applicable to musical abilities in the “real world.” So with such turmoil abound, how was Claudia supposed to perform?
But after her run on Idol ended in March, Claudia faded back into obscurity. She stopped being so active on social media; just a few posts every once in a while. She would go days or sometimes weeks without updates and what she did post was relatively mundane; hanging out with friends, getting ready to go to prom, listening to Olivia Rodrigo. Nothing about her parens, politics, or her mental health. And so the news media stopped covering her.
So let’s go back to this past Wednesday. There she was on my FYP under an alt-name talking about her mother again. But this time, things were better. She posted a series of videos explaining that she and her mother had both been to individual and mother/daughter therapy to learn how to process their own personal trauma, grief, and abuse and live together happily.
Claudia also mentioned that her Very Intense Tiktoks were not any act of attention seeking, but were a cry for help. She felt a very real need for someone to help her get out of a dark situation and it worked. Many of her fans worked together to help her (some weren’t as productive, but we won’t get into that). And in the end, she got the help she needed, as did her mother.
Since things turned dark for Claudia Conway, I’ve tried to only cover her when she’s made headlines. It didn’t feel right to talk about her little posts on her Tiktok that weren’t getting picked up anywhere. But this feels different; she seems okay. It’s hard to know if this will last, but I think we have to take her at her word for now.
Good for you, Claudia. I hope things stay this way forever.
